Umra Omar is a globally recognized humanitarian and founder of Safari Doctors, an organization providing mobile healthcare to remote communities along the Kenyan coast. Her work has brought medical services to thousands who previously had no access to healthcare.
Named a CNN Hero and featured among the world's most influential leaders, Umra is an Amujae Leader of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center. Her grassroots experience and international recognition make her uniquely positioned to lead Lamu into a new era of development.
With a vision rooted in unity and service, Umra seeks to transform Lamu County through sustainable development, cultural preservation, and inclusive governance that leaves no one behind.

Raised by her grandmother in Tchundwa on Pate Island of the Lamu Archipelago attending Tchundwa Nursery and Primary, Umra moved to Nairobi with her parents and sisters for elementary (Aga Khan Primary) and secondary school (Rusinga). At 17 years of age she moved to the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales and later went on to pursue her Bachelors on a full scholarship in Oberlin College majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology. In 2009, Umra completed her Masters of Social Justice in Intercultural Relations at the School for International Training in Vermont. In 2014, Umra founded Safari Doctors.
